Just a quick note to say, if you’re giving someone directions to your house, please make it clear for someone to find WHILE DRIVING. For instance, this would be difficult to READ while driving:

Take Highway 64 North until you come to Washington Street. Turn right, then left on Cedar street. Go about 2 blocks and you’ll see Alpine Drive. Turn Left. We’re the third house on the right.

Why not something more like this:

N 64
R WASHINGTON
L CEDAR
2 blocks
L ALPINE
3 houses R

On paper, the bold are circled for more clarity. You can usually omit the use of the word HWY unless there are streets with numbers that might get confused with the highway.

And, since street signs are typically all caps, make the street names in your directions all caps too so what you’re seeing on the road is the same as your directions.

With all the things we do while driving—putting on makeup, talking on the phone, yelling at the kids, texting, and even watching TV—we should try to be safe in the car by at least having clear directions. </sarcasm>
