Jute Box, Anyone?
Ever since the Lovely Package Swap this summer I’ve been wrapping my products in various papers (kraft, transparent, tissue) and tying them up with some jute twine. As Christmas came near I got an itch to find some red, white, and green to spruce them up a bit (I also stick a small cinnamon stick in the bottom of every package to give you a hint of Christmas)!
Anyway, I scoured the web–and local vendors–to find a really good lightweight jute twine in various colors. Colored twine is really hard to come by! Hence Whitney’s gumption for Divine Twine.
It actually took longer to find the wooden spools. They’re not cheap and most are designed for crafting (non-functioning), but I finally found a place to get them in bulk, so I can keep the price reasonable and still give you the added ease of a working spool. I know how frustrating it is to buy string in a bundle and have it tangle on me as I try to unwind it. Not to mention, they’re just cute!
In the process of designing the packaging, I came up with what I call the Jute Box!
The box itself is designed for this. I looked hard to find a box that would be easy for you to get in and out of, one that would:
- comfortably fit 5 spools
- let me easily make holes for dispensing
- be clear so you can see when you have a spool that is low on twine
This clear gable box is perfect! Specifically, the slope of the top of the box works better than a flat top box. Here’s what it looks like ready to work:
The twine dispensed quite nicely in my testing and in fact, I now use this myself in my office. The bow at the top was for decoration at first, but it’s actually functional as I discovered I can use it to hang the box instead and clear up more of my work table.
What’s Inside
So here’s what you get inside – you get three spools of 15 yards each: red, white, and green.
Then two more spools of natural twine – 20 yards lightweight and 5 yards medium weight.
And of course, you can always buy them individually too because I don’t believe in making you buy a whole set when you’ve just run out of one color. The spools are $3.00 each in any combination. I wanted to reduce the price a bit for the packaged set, but the packaging cost a bit itself so I just couldn’t do it. Still, it’s just $15.00 for 70 yards of 5 types of twine!
I plan to have more Jute Boxes after the new year with more colors, packaged to coordinate with my pattern sets!
