Signature Random Gmail Post

or… Put a random post from your blog in your Gmail signature.

Somehow that post title just wasn’t happening. Anyhow… here’s a Gmail trick for getting a random recent post from your blog to appear in your email signature. Here’s what mine looks like:

Compose Mail - nataliejost@gmail.com - Gmail.jpg

1. Click Settings

Settings - nataliejost@gmail.com - Gmail.jpg

2. Click Labs

3. Enable Random Signature

To find it fast, hit cmd+F (ctrl+F) and start typing “random”. Click Enable.

Settings - nataliejost@gmail.com - Gmail-2.jpg

Scroll all the way to the bottom (or top) of the page and click SAVE CHANGES.

4. Now, Click the GENERAL tab

Settings - nataliejost@gmail.com - Gmail-3.jpg

5. Scroll down to SIGNATURE

Set your signature how you’d like it to read, including an intro to your posts: “recently on my blog” if you like.

Settings - nataliejost@gmail.com - Gmail-4.jpg

Check the box and insert any RSS feed in the input field. This can work with ANY RSS feed – it will randomly insert an entry from the feed you use. So your blog, or even your Etsy shop! Show a random item from your recently listed products. Neat-o huh?

6. One snag

There’s a flaw with this plugin that so far hasn’t been caught or fixed yet – every time you change a setting in the general tab, it will uncheck the box and you’ll have to go back and check it again. I know. Lame. Just something to remember when you’re wondering why your posts suddenly aren’t showing up in your email anymore.

Still, it’s pretty cool!

  3. Hi Natalie cool idea! However why use a random post when you can feature your latest and freshest post in your Signature? as well as add your Social Profiles, Switch sigs + add your latest twitter…and so much more… Check out http://www.wisestamp.com a Firefox & Chrome extension Josh @ WiseStamp

  4. Thanks Josh. I like what you’ve done there. I still like the random post better than just a single most recent post, but I haven’t yet seen another way to get an image (logo) into a signature, so that’s cool!

  5. Thank you so much for this! I am going to have to try it!
